Manganese Ore Supplies, Demand and Prices

With the surplus supply of Manganese in China, the prices are kept on slugging. The transaction is low and most of the traders are maintaining the wait and watch theory.
In Australia, the manganese ore shipments from Australia’s port Hedland has decreased. The estimation is that the shipments have decreased around 55% by September 2011 and the current supply is around 44%. The manganese ore Exported to China is around 48,000MT in September 2011.
The Prices agreed as on CIF basis for China are USD 5.50/DMTU for GEMCO Lumps ( Mn 46%), USD 5.40/DMTU for Metallurgical Fines ( Mn 48%) and USD 4.80/DMTU for manganese Ore Lumps of 38%.
Other than China, the second largest importer of manganese from Australia is Ukraine. In September 2011, about 60,000MT of Manganese Ore was exported to Ukraine.
In India, SAIL is interested in JV for Manganese Ore Mining in the State of Rajasthan. The talks are already on with the Government of Rajasthan for manganese ore Joint venture. The joint venture with Tata may operate company’s Sitanala Mine.
