Iron Ore Mines and Iron Ore Business
Most of the Iron Ore Mines are located in the surrounding region of the port. Mines located at Banda and Sawantwadi are major source of iron ore for exports from Redi Port. The iron ore available from this region is mainly low grade and high grade ore is also available from some of the mines located in these regions. The Quality of the iron ore is similar to the iron ore of Goa Origin.
Transportation is the major problem faced by exporters. Most of the roads are narrow and passes through town or villages. This creates the dust and other problems to the local public. More measures are being taken by the ore carrying companies to develop a by-pass road which helps to carry ore directly to the port from mines without entry town or villages and without disturbing the local population.
The mining companies has made huge investments for mining and extraction of iron ore along with transportation of the iron ore from the mining sites at Talawane and Satarda villages in Sawantwadi taluka , kalne in Dodamarg taluka and Redi in Vengurla taluka.
Many major companies from Mumbai and other location are already mining iron ore at these regions from past several years. Government has also recently approved forty nine mining leases for Iron Ore and Bauxite ore in Sindhudurg. Minimum thirty two leases are only from sawantwadi and dodmarg region.
